A few days late, since Salmonella is quite literally kicking my ass. Double pun intended.
A big part of the conservatives’ anti-abortion power sprouts from the “decent” and “discrete” use of the term and everything associated with it.
We don’t talk about abortion.
If you talk about it, you must choose words very carefully as to not hurt or offend.
The same goes for rape. Rape. What an ugly word, huh?
You don’t talk about rape. It’s not decent. You keep quiet. You don’t want to be looked down upon. You don’t want — whatever that person born in 1930 — told you was going to happen if you talk about it.
Then fortunately, the #MeToo movement came along. And it’s very obvious that for society, talking about such an issue is actually a step towards solving it.
For someone to say “I was raped.” not only helps the victim process the trauma – it prevents future cases. For rapists – those who lack internal morals, social ostracism is a must. For those who wish to unjustly take control over another person’s body – social ostracism is a must. Being silent on the issue benefits the perpetrator’s agenda. And Biopower is formed in silence.
So talk to your friends. Normalise casually talking about having an abortion.
At this point, the conservative viewpoint comes in: “.. but it’s MURDER.”
While we’re here, an easy jab at conservatives: Ask a female where she feels safer – an LGBTQ+ rally afterparty or a Jordan B. Peterson seminar afterparty.
You can take your symbolism and put it wherever you’d like.
You’re not eating a burger. You’re consuming a murdered cow.
Either go vegan, or consume meat with the full, examined knowledge of your actions.
And this goes both ways. I’m willing to talk about abortion.
I’m willing to drink a smoothie made out of aborted fetuses if it would put an end to this idiotic debate.
There are not many things I’m not willing to do when it comes to protecting a person’s fundamental right.
And I will do it with a clear mind and clear intentions.
