In today’s society, we often see most experienced individuals in fields like academia, business, or politics as being somewhat out of touch, yet holding significant authority due to their senior positions.
Historically, the advice and knowledge of older generations were highly valued because life didn’t change much from one generation to the next. The elders’ experiences provided a reliable guide for the younger generation. The elders were once the young and the young will once be the elders.
The rise of the internet and rapid technological advancements have created a significant gap. The world is evolving so quickly that the younger generation’s future is vastly different from the elders’ past, making much of their advice less applicable to today’s challenges. Most elders can accurately comment only upon the base assumptions of reality and human nature. This may not be as relevant for leading a world that is changing at an unprecedented pace.
Our future looks nothing like their past.
Some have an open mind, some just have tenure.
