Another submarine implosion / Mangione situation, but this time around it’s the “common Man”.
Charlie Kirk was killed, and it seems this will resonate in mainstream social media for quite some time. It quickly turned into a left vs right argument (which was expected, but is nonetheless sad).
There are a few basic principles that I believe we, as a society, should always adhere to.
One of those principles, for me, is that human life is untouchable. Always.
The U.S. had already failed before the debate even began. A country that practices capital punishment (killing people found guilty of a crime), simply cannot be a country that respects the sanctity of human life in any other sphere of social existence. If you keep sending signals that murder can be (and is) justified, you will inevitably produce more murder. It’s as simple as that.
My universal maxim is the conviction that murder cannot be justified.
Kirk’s universal maxim was the conviction that murder can be justified and that death is necessary. The guy believed in guns and in violence as a means to an end, and he (most likely?) got killed because of – and in tune with – this conviction.
I believe that all human lives are equal. But since sympathy is finite in each of us, Kirk receives none of mine. My heart, and my sympathy, go instead to those who are truly innocent victims, bystanders. People who simply wanted to live their lives, who had their own dreams, ambitions, and hopes snuffed out, and who only make it into the media as numbers, as “necessary collateral damage,” in Kirk’s own words.
What will Trump’s protofascist bloodthirsty government do with this? Nothing good for the average citizen. Never let a good story go to waste; Horst Wessel 2.0
Did this shooting make you uncomfortable, perhaps mad? It should. The US had 309 mass shootings with 1354 victims this year. The US is supporting Israel’s genocide in Gaza, where 60000+ Palestinians were already mass-murdered, and are currently being mass-starved, bombed and shot while waiting in lines for humanitarian aid. I hope this makes you at least uncomfortable as well.
Violence breeds violence. It is an iron law of history and human nature. Until we as a society embrace the conviction that human life is untouchable, we will continue to reap the harvest of death we ourselves have sown.
If what it took to realise this (or to speak up) was your favourite influencer getting killed, well, you’re a cunt.
